Unai Emery believes that his side could have done much better in the latest Russian Premier League tie against Zenit St. Petersburg at Petrovsky stadium.
Spartak Moscow’s winning streak came to an end after they suffered a humiliating 5-0 defeat in the latest Russian Premier League tie against Zenit
St. Petersburg at Petrovsky stadium on Saturday.
The Moscow-based club suffered this painful defeat after winning against Volga Nizhny Novgorod, Alania Vladikavkaz and Dynamo Moscow. Spartak have now dropped down to the 2nd spot on the league table.
The Spartachi looked miserable and helpless as they recorded their heaviest defeat since the inception of the Russian championship. The last time when the Moscow-based club conceded five goals was against CSKA Moscow in 2008, however,
they had managed to get a consolation goal at that time.
In aftermath of the outcome, Unai Emery has lamented the situation, telling that Spartak have not shown their brand of football against Luciano Spalletti’s men on the away turf. He admitted that they lost a big game after losing
self confidence.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diniyar-Bilyaletdinov-c11318, who returned to Moscow from Everton in January, fired the penalty wide.
“We did not show our football. However, it’s our own fault as we failed to score from the penalty spot. If we would have scored at that time, the result would have been different. Another key point was when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aiden-McGeady-c4091 was sent
off.”
“It is not the limit. The team failed to play up to their potential and realize their ambitions. We had a decent chance to retain the top spot after claiming all three points. Zenit dominated the pitch right from the first minute
and I think they deserved the win.” The Miguel Muñoz Trophy winner was quoted as saying.
Emery, who took charge as Spartak’s head coach after Valery Karpin’s resignation last month, thanked the fans for their support until the last minute of the match despite their below par performance and assured them of making things
better for them next time around.
