There has been a lot of talking on Spartak Moscow’s poor defensive form ever since the 2012-13 campaign has started. There is little arguing to the statement that the Moscow-based club have conceded more goals than they have scored
this term.
Spartak, who suffered back-to-back defeats in their opening two UEFA Champions League’s group stage games against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Barcelona-c39078 and Celtic, managed to claim their first win in the European tournament after defeating SL Benfica 2-1
at Luzhniki stadium on Tuesday.
Nicolas Pareja has hailed his side’s character after the win, saying that the Moscow-based club were the dominant force on the pitch after displaying some decent football in front of their fans.
And while some of the football pundits have blamed new head coach, Unai Emery, for the weak http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 at the back and some suggest otherwise, Pareja is of the belief that the Red-whites are improving with every game.
The Argentina national was declared as the man-of-the-match by UEFA after completing an impressive 90 minutes on the pitch. However, Pareja credited the entire side for their virtuoso display and urged them to extend their decent
run in the continental tournament.
“I am glad that I have been declared s best player of the match. But the most important thing is the win. We managed to win only through collective actions. In general, this award is not for me, but for the entire team. We have
earned a very important three points.”
“Hopefully, this result will give strength and hope and we will continue in the same spirit. The whole team has improved defensively. We did a good job and it was visible on the field. We had more chances to score than the opponent
and deserved to win.” The former Espanyol player was quoted as saying.
Pareja went on to admit that Spartak need to win the remaining group stage matches if they are to qualify for the next round in Europe.
