Valery Karpin believes that Spartak may sign Zenit St. Petersburg’s Denisov should the best Russian Premier League player last season wants to come to Moscow this winter
Reports in Russian media have linked Zenit St. Petersburg midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Igor-Denisov-c16694, with a move to Spartak Moscow after the 28-year-old refused to sign a new deal at Petrovsky stadium earlier this week.
The Russian national team midfielder, meanwhile, got him into trouble after asking the defending Russian Premier League champions to increase his wages to match the St. Petersburg club’s latest acquisition: Hulk.
Consequently, Luciano Spalletti penalised him and restricted him from first team action by sending him to the reserves where he remained more than one month and did not play two UEFA Champions League’s group stage matches.
Zenit signed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 last summer and the Brazilian striker is reportedly earning twice more salary as compared to Denisov.
If speculations are to be believed, Denisov has given an ultimatum to Zenit to extend the terms and conditions of the agreement, which is valid until 2015. Denisov reportedly wants to receive 3.5 million Euros per year, plus additional
bonuses and incentives.
The player’s agent has already begin talks with the management over his client’s wages and can offer Denisov to Zenit’s arch rivals, Spartak Moscow, should the Meshki fail to offer him a lucrative package.
Speaking on the ongoing transfer saga between Spartak and Denisov, Valery Karpin has added fuel to the speculations after confirming that he would consider signing the prolific central defender should the player wants to remain
in Russia.
“I think that the Denisov’s transfer is not impossible. But in principle the transition from one club to another is likely only if the player wants to join us as he reportedly wants to change his current team.”
“I'm often asked about him. I think he can be a vital addition to our squad. He was the best player in the Russian championship last season and we will see how things change over the course of next few weeks.” The former Valencia
CF man was quoted as saying.
Denisov is yet to score a goal in all competitions, having started 14 league outings so far this season.
