The 2011-12 Russian Premier League is underway as FC Volga Nizhny Novgorod travelled away to Olimpiyskiy Kompleks Luzhniki Stadion to take on Spartak Moscow on Monday, 21 March, 2011.
After a long battle, Valery Karpin’s side edged past Nizhny by a 1-0 margin.
The home team went in with a standard 4-4-2 formation. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Welliton-c36773 started upfront for the Kanso-belye. The visitors, on the other hand, adapted the same approach, putting Gocha Khodzhava and Otar Martsvaladze upfront. Ilya Abaev guarded the
visitor’s net while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andriy-Dikan-c5993 started in goal for the hosts.
The home team got the half underway but looked a bit rusty in the opening moments of the game. The visitors on the other hand also looked sloppy at the start of the new season.
There were a very few chances for both teams but no team was able to capitalise on them. Home team’s midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kirill-Kombarov-c21142 became the first man to be booked after he committed a foul in the 17th minute. Frustration was rising in both camps
as no team were able to break the deadlock. As a result, the away team’s defender, Inal Getigezhev got himself booked in the 27th minute. Both goalkeepers remained un-tested for a long period of time as the first half drew to a close.
Both teams showed some intent in the second half but it was the home team which went into the lead after the Brazilian, Welliton, guided his shot past http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ilya-Abayev-c16892 in the 50th minute.
After the goal, home team looked more settled. The visitors though kept on fighting hard but were not able to break the Myaso defence. With just over eight minutes remaining in full time, goal scorer Welliton got booked for some verbal exchanges with Giya
Grijalva in the 81st minute.
The latter was also booked at the same time. Manager Omari Tetradze replaced the defender Grijalva with the Uzbek midfielder Sanzhar Tursunov as the last move. Unfortunately, no one could come to the visitors rescue as the match ended 1-0 in the home team’s
favour.
Spartak Moscow registered their first win of the season after losing out 4-0 to FK Rostov on Monday, 14 March, 2011. Nizhny Novgorod, on the other hand, also have one victory from their two games. Rubin Kazan are currently at the top of the table with two
wins from two games.
