Valery Karpin fired a barb at Zenit St. Petersburg’s Luciano Spalletti after urging his side to improve defensively following their latest Russian Premier League defeat on Friday
Spartak Moscow head coach, Valery Karpin, has shrugged off the rumours that the Moscow-based club have completed the signing of FC Krasnodar hot-shot, Yuran Movsisyan, after agreeing personal terms with the Armenian-American player.
The 25-year-old striker, who has already scored 9 goals in 13 league appearance this term, has strongly been linked with the Russian giants after Slavoljub Muslin confirmed that Movsisyan is likely to leave the Krasnodar-based
club for Moscow.
News in Russian media suggest that the Red-Whites are likely to make an official statement on Movsisyan’s transfer on Monday, confirming that the player has passed medical examination in Moscow after signing a five-year contract.
The fact that Spartak suffered a humiliating 2-4 defeat against Zenit St. Petersburg at Luzhniki stadium displeases Karpin, who urged his side to work harder and warned the back-four to improve if they are to get more playing time
in the near future.
However, the 43-year-old remained optimistic about Nicolas Pareja and Juan Insaurralde’s performances throughout the campaign despite the Argentine defenders have been criticized by some senior football analysts.
Karpin admitted that his side needs to improve defensively. However, he assured the fans of turning the fortunes of the Moscow-based club with the same set of defensive players in the near future after citing a real life time example
during his stay at Real Sociedad.
“What to do with central defenders? The problem is not only there but also in support. I will not solely blame the central defenders for the team’s failure in recent matches. I can tell you from my own experience.”
“Real Sociedad were struggling defensively during 2001/02 season. But a year later they were arguably the best in the campaign defensively. So, you never know when things change.” The Intertoto Cup winner was quoted as saying.
Karpin went on to blast http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luciano-c22574 Spalletti for criticizing Spartak’s transfer policy, saying that the Italian tactician needs to look at his team that have spent over 100 million Euros recently.
