Valery Karpin has tipped Demy de Zeeuw and Rafael Carioca to prove their worth in the Russian Premier League under new head coach, Unai Emery, next season
Spartak Moscow general director, Valery Karpin, has denied the reports suggesting that Zenit St. Petersburg is the most popular club in Russia. He insisted that Spartak are the most successful Russian club since the inception of
the Russian Premier League.
The former Real Sociedad player has admitted that Zenit have made noticeable accomplishments in recent years. The St. Petersburg club has won the UEFA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Russian Cup and three league titles in the last five years.
Spartak, on the other hand, have failed to win trophies in recent years. However, they remain the most successful club in Russia, as they had claimed nine league titles since the inception of the Russian top division in 1992.
There is little arguing that the Spartachi have been struggling to rediscover their old form that made them a top and an admirable Russian club. Their poor run of form has seen them without UEFA Champions League football this season.
However, the Red-whites will play in the Champions League after claiming 2nd spot in the standing this time around.
"I don’t think Zenit are the most popular clubs in Russia. I wonder who conducts such surveys. I can assure you that the results will be quite different if you will make a poll. I have no doubt that Spartak are the most popular
club in Russia.” The Intertoto Cup winner was quoted as saying.
The 43-year-old went on to back the signings he made during his managerial reign at Luzhniki stadium. Karpin has signed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rafael-Carioca-c30355 from Ajax Amsterdam and Gremio respectively.
Media reports in Russia suggest that both the midfielders are set to leave the Russian outfit this summer after failing to impress. Carioca has contributed a single goal from 35 appearances and De Zeeuw has struggled to remain
fit much of the season.
Karpin has urged the aforementioned midfielders to work harder and assured the fans of keeping an eye on their progress.
