Spartans defeat Itekeng by 3-0 in Mascom National Volleyball league final
The Spartans were able to hand out an overwhelming defeat to Itekeng in the final of the Mascom National Volleyball league match by 3-0. The venue for the decisive match was the BDF Second Brigade camp.
The first set of the match was pretty one sided as the host team was able to take advantage of the home courts to assert themselves. It took Itekeng one complete set to get accustomed to the charged atmosphere of the match. Despite the fact that Itekeng
performed well in the second set, they still were not able to dominate the set. After having lost the first two sets of the game, Itekeng put in a half-hearted effort in the third and lost it as well.
By the time that the Spartans were through, the score board showed the following final set scores: 25-17, 25-23 and 25-16.
Chetiso Keofetlhile, the coach of the Spartan team expressed his appreciation for his team and said, "They wanted to resist, but I told my players that they must confound Itekeng players in order to achieve maximum results. And they played according to instructions."
The Spartans took on the first set of the game with unrivalled strength. They were able to outplay Itekeng in almost all aspects of the game. Therefore, when the Spartans took the first set at 25-17, it did not come as a surprise.
The second set of the match was tough from the start until the end. Both the Spartans and Itekeng were almost neck to neck with each other all the way through. Itekeng remained active in the offense side and was able to obtain a leading position in the final
stages of the set at 22-21. However, the Spartans did not lose their nerve and bagged the second set of the match at 25-23.
After having lost the first two sets of the game, Itekeng seemed to play the third set with reduced energy. They seemed to have lost their confidence in the face of a determined and persistent Spartan onslaught. Therefore, it was not a tough job for the
Spartans to take the lead for themselves and remain in a dominating position all through the third set of the game. All Itekeng could do was to trail behind and see the Spartans seal the deal on what became the final set of the game at 25-16.
Despite the fact that they lost the match, Itekeng team players showed their true potential in the second set of the match. The players that stood particularly prominent on the Itekeng side were Potlako Senwelo, Tshitego Charles Maifhala and Onkabetse Mabikwa.
These three formed an integral part of the Itekeng offense.
