  1. Biogeography involves where species occur, including wildlife.  Spatial distribution of species can be studied and described in many ways, for instance observing where plants occur, generating maps showing species distribution, studying animals by capture-mark-recapture studies, placing a radio-collar on an animal and tracking its movements, calculating the size of an animal's home range, etc.

The ecological dimension to biogeography focuses on *why* organisms are distributed as they are.  This can focus on how new organisms enter the population (in-migration, retention of juveniles, etc); reproduction and survivorship; how species use the available environmental resources of food, water, shelter, etc; competition between species for limited resources; the "niche" that a species occupies in the habitat compared to closely related or competing species; and lots of other studies and theories that try to explain distribution and abundance of species.
