Spaying is a good idea, right?

*sigh* I just had my female cat spayed yesterday, and I'm overwhelmed with guilt. She's still lethargic from the anesthesia, she's got stitches on her tummy, and she's got these...I don't know how to describe them except as "divots" in her side. She used to have a nice rounded belly and now she looks emaciated and concave on her hips. Please tell me I did the right thing!

  1. yes. u did the right thing. if u didnt do that then if ur cat found a male than u would have a lot of homeless kittens. weve already got enough of those. so yah. that was a VERY good thing to do... :)

  2. You absolutely did the right thing.  Any kind of surgery is traumatic for an animal, and each animal react differently to the anesthesia.  My cat had a dental cleaning and he had to go under anesthesia and it took him like 3 days to get back to his normal behavior.  If you have any concerns call your vet, they should be able to answer any concerns you have !!

  3. It's fine that's she's lethargic today.  She's recovering from anesthesia and pain medication.  She'll almost certainly feel better tomorrow.  By day 2-3 post-surgery, most are acting normally again.

And her belly will heal and look completely normal soon.  Don't worry - no more heat cycles for her and no unwanted pregnancies - she'll be happier in the long run.  You absolutely did the right thing.

  4. YES you did the right thing!

cats that are not spayed can get really sick and die from getting out and having kittens! it also makes them want to leave the house and find a guy and she'll most likely get fleas and ticks and other bad things!

she'll be all better soon and you'll be glad you did! :)

  5. she's fine. spaying is a good idea so your cat wont get pregnant. i know it looks ugly but it will be ok.

  6. yes

  7. if you don't want kitten yes

  8. Spaying was definitely the right thing to do.  She will be fine.  Anyone, even humans, are lethargic after surgery with anesthesia.  Give her a few days and she will be back to her old self.

  9. She will be fine and it's best for her health.  You, however, will not be forgiven...ever.  So get use to that.

  10. of course you did, cats are not like humans and cant say when enough babies are enough and they need you to help out, they will go into litter as soon as their in heat and male cats will come from all over the country to provide the service which means your wee darling could end up with any kind of disease let alone another litter that could kill her as having too many is sooooo soooo bad for her, neutering or spaying her is the best for her and you as if you have problems getting rid of the kittens i know people who drowned theirs and it breaks my heart. its ok and shel get over it!! its like humans any opperation will take its toll on their body and takes a while to recover, hope she feels better soon!!

  11. Don't worry, she'll be fine.  She looks so skinny because her fur's been shaved, right?  By today she should be eating at least a little.  If she's not eating, contact your vet just to be sure there aren't any complications.

Most cats get over being spayed pretty quickly.  You did the right thing.
