okay, i have 6 cats now. I jst got 2 more stray kittens that have really bed respitory infections and ulsers in their eyes. they are about ohhh... almost 2 months old right now. But sam, the little boy is normal size, but his little sister, molie is really small! she is seriously 1/3 the size of her brother (they are from the same litter!) when i get them fixed, should i wait for moli to grow? or should i just do it when she is old enough. i have had small cats, but shes only 1pound! and idk if its safe for her to get fixed at her size! shoudl i wait??

  1. The minimum weight to safely spay a kitten is 3 pounds.  males can be done at 2 pounds. If his weight is good, go ahead and have Sam done when his URI clears up. Let Molie wait a little longer till she's gained some weight and built up her strength.  Get your vet's input on when he recommends it be done.

  2. your vet will probably tell you at what weight they prefer, usually between 3 and 5 pounds. any smaller than that and they do not spay or neuter because of problems with anesthesia dosage.

try giving L-Lysene supplement to your kits with the eye ulcers. Eye ulcers usually come with the feline herpes virus, which is one of the "big three" viruses that cause upper respiratory infections. L-Lysene is available at pharmacies and health food departments, right in there with dietary supplements. It disrupts the herpes virus cycle so the cat's own immune system can fight back better (since there is no cure for viruses)

  3. it seems like you have a runt from the litter and when you do have a runt, due to their small size, you always have to wait just a little bit longer to do certain things that you do with regularly sized kittens so yes you should wait
