Question:

Speaker/Input/Microphone Multi Cable?

Hi,

I like being at the back when i run presentations and sound (sometimes video). I have a screen extension for the projector, but for sound i don't want to run 5 separate long cables to the front of the hall. Would i be able to use a serial cable (7pins computer) and have junction boxes at either end? I mainly need the audio to the speakers (approx 80watts) and one or two inputs for the speaker microphones. Are serial cables suitable for sound like what i am trying to do?

Cheers

Please explain and leave an email if you need more info. It'll be much appreciated.

  1. Yes you can do this - it is done all the time.

You do NOT want to use serial computer cable for any of this.

You want to use speaker wire for the speakers.  It will be 14 or 12 gauge speaker wire that is available at electronic stores.

For the microphone lines, you want to use "twisted shielded pair" wire.  It has two twisted wires in the middle with an overall shield for a total of three conductors.  You could also buy 50 foot three pin mic cables that already have the connectors on them.  Mic cables are always shielded with two conductors in the middle.

Here is a pair of 50 foot cables on ebay:

    Speaker wire:

If you are not in the US, there must be a place to get the proper wire wherever you are.
