Question:

Speaker/Receiver/Home Theatre Advice?

Hi Everyone,

My receiver is dated and my speakers (Pioneer S-H351F-K), though I love them, have to go because the speaker wire clip on the back of one of the speakers snapped off while I was moving them and the wire won't stay put. I assume it will cost more to fix them then to purchase something new.

Anyway, I am looking for a good, inexpensive receiver to hook my Hitachi 51/57/65F59A CRT RPTV up to as well as some good, inexpensive speakers or speaker system. Preferably, I would like to buy a "home theatre in a box" type thing but only need the receiver and speakers...I do not not need a DVD player. Also, if the satellite speakers were wireless...that would be a plus because I am in an apartment.

Any recommendations??

Thanks!

  1. I recommend an Onkyo HT System in a box.  I have an Onkyo 6.1 system and its Excellent..easy to set up and install.    Suggestion..don't use the speaker wires that come with the system.  Buy better (thicker) cables when you connect the speakers.   Check out their ratings on-line....very good product reviews.   You can get it without the DVD player also.

  2. Howdy. First you need a price range. Onkyo, pioneer, and yamaha have cheap A/V receivers. Check out speakers at parts express Dayton. Sound good and good price. Check out local ht shops for what your looking for. Test drive your stuff. All speakers and receivers sound different. Check for easy to understand setup also. Look at everything you can before your decision. Check for warranty and do research. You want a receiver with HDMI 1.3 in and out at least on it. Good luck.

  3. First, if you're going to throw the speakers away, why not actually try to replace the wire clip? put some nice binding posts instead. Cheap repair that will save you hundreds. Even if you need to solder, I guarantee you will learn in 2 seconds (I did!) and the material is cheap.

  4. This is a good deal...the speakers aren't wireless but it is a SONY...

  5. Axiom M3ti speakers

    Ascend Accoustics CMT-340 SE speakers

    Denon Receivers

    Marantz Receivers

If you only use 5.1, then look around for a used receiver.  Something like the Marantz SR-18EX will work quite nicely for you.  Both speakers I've mentioned can be easily researched on the web and have greate reputations and great customer service.  You will not find them in a Best Buy though.
