Speaker box with 12's AND 6x9's?

I have some JL Audio subs and some 2-way Pioneer 6x9's. I'd like to build some boxes to hold both. Will this work? Any ideas?

Thanks.

  1. Wouldn't reccomend it unless you seperate the compartments. The SPL from the subs will interfere with the 6x9's and vice versa.

Even then, its not the best Idea in the world, really, your 6x9s if being used as rear speakers should be mounted on the rear deck. This is done in order to make good use of the rear window's angle to deflect the sound towards the front of the car. It really depends on the kind of vehicle its being used in, and how you were planning on doing it. But in my opinion, the downsides dramatically outweigh the upsides.

Also, when you are building your boxes make sure you do it according to the subs specs. Depending on the model you can probably find it on JL's web site.

Edit: if it's for a motorhome to be used inside/outside It's a good Idea. I would build a box for your subs, and attach a triangle sealed box ontop of that seperated for your 6x9's.

Just to get the largest listening area out of the highs/mids from the 6x9's.

As for powering, You probably won't be able to power the subs and 6x9's with the same amp, so you will have to work something out for that. UNLESS...You don't send a sub frequency to the JL subs and use a 4 channel to power the subs/6x9s. Provided the JL subs are either dual 2 ohm or single 4 ohm and can be powered at 4 ohm with the 6x9's

  2. Yes it will if you hook them up correctly. It depends if you were going to amp up your speakers as well because they wont fit the same ohms as you're wiring your subs to. I wouldnt build a box for the speakers, just the subs. Keep those speakers in your cabin.

What kind of JL subs do you have? I have 2  12" w6v2s and 6.5 XR components in all the doors
