Question:

Speaker cables into RCA input?

I just got a 3-in-1 record/tape/tuner thing and the only input it has is a set of L and R RCA inputs for speakers, and one for an aux. I'm trying to connect some very old speakers that only have speaker cable (no RCA). Can I do this with what I've got?

  1. No, you cannot.  Basically, certain old Record/Tape/Tuner things (I used to have one) use their own proprietary speakers.  They cannot be connected to regular speakers because they are not wired correctly.  You could take it to an electrical type who may be able to rig it so that the right kind of signal is going down the speaker wires to power a regular speaker, but why bother?  New ones are so cheap.

  2. That doesn't sound right. Why don't you include model numbers to be sure.
