Question:

Speaker connection question?

I have seen some diagrams of ceiling speaker connectons, probably parallel, that have a speaker cable coming from an amplifier, into one speaker's positive, and another cable coming from that same positive, into the other speaker's positive. How can you put 2 positives in the speaker?

  1. There are two ways to wire speakers, series and parallel. Usually a combination of the two is used for multiple speakers if it is not a 70v system. Series is + then through the speaker to it's - which goes to the next speakers + and so on. Impedance adds in series.

The other way is what you describe, parallel.+ to + to + and - to - to -. Impedance divides in parallel.

Running too high an impedance is not a huge problem, they just won't play as loud. Running to low an impedance is a big problem and can blow your amp.

  2. Theses speakers have an in/out input connector. Take a look at the installation instructs for these ceiling speakers on page 5 (step 2-2).
