Speaker distortion (buzzing sound)?

I've recently bought some PC speakers off eBay (Cambridge SoundWorks DTT2500). They're 5.1 surround sound so I've organised them around my PC. However, when I have the volume up and with no music playing, I'm hearing a loud "buzzing" sound or static from the speakers. Does anyone know what's going on?

When the music's playing, it isn't too bad... but it's still annoying!!

  1. It sounds like you have a "ground loop" issue. The solution depends on why it's occuring. In many cases, just plugging the power cord of the computer and the speaker system into the same surge protector will solve it.
