I just replaced my home theater system and have one issue.

My rear speaker wires are under the wall to wall carpeting and the speakers with the new unit are integrated into the new speakers and has custom inserts that go into unit. Would anyone know if the wires from the new speakers can be cut and soldered to my existing wires without loosing sound quality.

  1. Your sound quality will only be as good as the smallest dia. of wire. depending on what you replace them with,  you may have power handling issues.

Although they are rears you will be sacrificing some sound quality thru the smaller gage wire. I would recommend that you use a large gage and use the existing wire as a fish for the new.

  2. You should be able to cut and connect the wires with no problem.  No soldering should be necessary - just strip the insulation a bit, twist them together and cover with electrical tape, ensuring to keep the two leads separated.
