Question:

Speakers 5.1 placement?

I'm confused as to how you set up surround sound with a PC or even a home theatre system. I understand where they should go around the focal point but how are the speakers usually set? They surely can't sit on the floor and I'd hate for wires to run throughout the room so what's your advice on stting up a 5,1 system with a PC? Are there stand that you can buy or am I missing something? Are cables a huge issue? Thank you.

  1. Depends on the size of your speakers for one, some are made to set on the floor, and others are not.

Most speakers today are smaller ,and are called bookshelf speakers. They can be placed on a bookshelf or entertainment center, mounted on a shelf, or hung on the wall.

And yes there are speaker stands for these type of speakers.

    They choice is clearly yours.

  2. placement is somewhat self explanitory.. left center right, left rear, and right rear... depending on the size and weight of the speakers, stands are available, or in most cases, i chose to mount them on the wall... there are many sources for inexpensive adjustable wall mounts.. be sure to have the weight of the speaker you are mounting to choose the correct brackets.. also, be sure to follow the instructions exactly.. if it is a hollow wall you are mounting on, be sure to use toggle type wall ancors, these will prevent the speakers from pulling the scres from the wall... if this is a pc system, 18 ga speaker wire will be adequate, 16 ga for longer runs.. you do not need  garden hose sized wires, it is a scam...if you have room, either fish the wires through the wall, or you can purchase self adhesive wire molding at any home improvement store to hide the wires..
