Speakers in my Jetta turn off sometimes, where should I get this fixed?

All of the speakers in my '96 VW Jetta, periodically go out. Sound just stops coming out. Usually it's just one speaker at a time, and they stop working anywhere from a couple of seconds to days.

Is this a wiring problem or something else?

Where can I go to get this fixed for relatively cheap?

  1. this happened to my buddy and his 700 dollar system. its wiring. dont go with circut city!!! they messed up my buddy's

  2. wiring for sure or your amps dont supply enough power need to know everything about your system first how much power your deck draws to if you have your system capped or not

  3. Amplifier weather built into head deck or external.  If it were wiring it would be the same speaker all the time.  Be careful if you are going to swap out the head deck, the space is really small and right around that year VW hooked the stereo up the ecu wiring harness and if you take your car to the dealership they will refuse to plug the car into their diagnostic systems.  Buy a cheap deck from Bestbuy or Circuit City, they know what they are doing.  If you want to go the DIY approach go to Crutchfield.com, they give you free wiring harness and directions with pictures.
