I know the people of Dominican Republic don’t speak Spanish. They speak Dominican which has a root from Spanish but it’s different. I’m on a mission to learn 4 different languages Dominican is one of them but Rosetta Stone doesn’t carry it. Does anyone know of a site or software program that could teach me the language.

  2. Sorry Nadal but the official language of the Dom. Rep. is Spanish.  Two years ago a friend got married out there. Because he was previously divorced he had to have his Divorce papers translated into Spanish. I am not a linguist but whilst out there we spoke Spanish too.

AND I KNOW IT IM DOMINICAN !

  16. It is Dominican Spanish. I went there only knowing English and German.   I taught myself Spanish from a regular Castillian Spanish book and it helped me very much.

The main differences I have noticed is that they speak very quickly. very very quickly and tend to drop the S on words.  for instances

"Como estas mi llamo es Carlos"  becomes "Como esta mi llamo eh Carlo"

They also have their own slang just like any other language.   If you get a Latin American phrasebook that will be helpful  but it really is just Spanish.

  17. Of course, people in the Dominican Republic speak Spanish ! to be exact it is Castillano ( this is one of the purest Spanish) the only problem they speak it very fast sometimes eat half words or sentences. But believe me it is Spanish!

    El Pinguino

  18. They do speak spannish whilst over there on holiday I took Spanish language lessons which they all took part in because they speak Spanish.

Learn spanish and perhaps then get a friend from dominican or something who could help you learn more.

Good luck! I am on the same mission lol
