Speakon to XLR Cables for Dj Gig?

Ok I have a gig in 2 weeks but this chick wants me to add another speaker to my amp. I have speakers using speakon cables and have xlr going to my mixer. I see on my amp there is an xlr out. After reviewing the specs it indicates ..."Sends

parallel full range signal out to other systems or

components". Would it be best to get a female xlr to speakon cable to attatch to my system? I dont want to blow my system out if there is to much power. I have a matrix 1000 with a 3 channel 700 watt amp. It aint much but its kicks a$$ just like that. since this gig im doing is a wedding i do not want to mess this up. please help if you know what i am talking about..

  1. Bingo, my thought exactly.  XLR is an input, not an output.  If used for an output, it's not an amp output, but a line-level output for bridging to another amp input.

Not sure about the specs to your system (3-ch, is that left, right & sub?), but professional speakers have a parallel loop-thru for connecting a second speaker.  Of course, half the power goes to one speaker while half goes to the other, so you'd have to drive them harder to get the same level as one speaker.  And you'd want to do the same with the other channel for balance.

You won't blow out your system with too much power as your system can only send out whatever it normally does.  Nothing will increase that.  Nor will you damage the extra speakers since you're divvying up that power among more speakers.

  2. This sounds like a line level output, not a speaker level out.  You'd need to connect this xlr to the input of another amp and the speakers to it.
