So me and my brother went spearfishing and we each caught 3 lobster. ( so a total of six) The only problem was we caught them illegally. We speared the lobster with a Pole spear. And some were not of legal size. I had my california fishing license but my brother didnt. What kind of fines can we expect from this mess

  1. It depends on what county you we're in, but your looking at a hefty fine. I've seen it between 75 and 500 dollars per offense. But spearing them and not having a license, along with the shorts is not good! you'll probably get 6 counts, plus as many shorts as you had, plus the license. They could confiscate your gear, and throw you in jail. After the fine that is.

  2. A friend of mine poached undersized, out of season lobsters in Ocean Beach.  He paid $1,000 per lobster.

Never spear or take lobsters that are undersized or have eggs.  Follow the California Department of Fish and Game regulations.
