Denby Grace, the producer at 2K, explains that he wants gamers to remember the Spec Ops as a game that had plenty of memorable, disturbing moments in line with what the studio believes in.
Spec Ops: The Line has been hyped as a game that will change the way video games approach the subject of war. According to the developers there will be no clear cut right or wrong choices within the game, nothing will be black or white. Instead, no matter
what decision a player makes, there will be consequences and a happy ending for one person will usually mean a bullet in the head for another.
This is what the developer of the upcoming post-apocalyptic looking Dubai-based shooter looks to embody and so far, fans seem to be keeping a keen eye on the project.
In a recent interview with Xbox World, Denby Grace was asked a number of questions about the game, the most interesting of which was whether or not 2K games was telling a war story the right way, in the sense that every decision had consequences.
Denby responded, “I don't know we can say we're doing it right, but the one thing I think we really believe in is that we're doing it differently.”
The producer continued by explaining that the studio was delving deeper into the emotional aspect involved with taking life or death decisions, “The standout thing for us is creating an emotional human story in a genre that's pretty devoid of stuff like
that right now.”
The studio seems confident on delivering that experience having worked on titles such as the Darkness, which had a number of memorable and disturbing moments of its own. Denby said, “Speaking from personal experience that's what I'm looking for in games,
and it's something that we really believe in at 2K. It's about creating these experiences that two, three, four years from now people will say: 'oh man remember that moment in that game? It was f*cked up.”
Spec Ops: The Line is set to take place in the city of Dubai, which has been decimated by a war and the desert is slowly reclaiming the city for itself.
