The producer at 2K Games, Denby Grace, elaborated on his earlier point of providing experiences through video games and explained that the video game industry was still maturing before taking a cheeky swing at Mr. Bay.
Many film critics and fans alike seem to have slapped the tag of ‘mindless chaos’ on the projects that Michael Bay has worked on recently. The lack of storyline and constant explosions and actions has made one wonder what exactly goes on in Michael Bay’s
head.
That is not necessarily a bad thing for some, however, Denby Grace believes that the gaming audience wants more depth in their entertainment packages, which is something 2K Games plans on providing with their upcoming title, Spec Ops: The Line.
Denby, in a recent interview with Xbox World, stated that the studio was working on adding memorable moments where gamers’ choices in the game would have consequences, however, he went on to state that the experience was not meant to be off putting.
The producer said, “Yeah, but I don't want to get people so they're absolutely turned off, or emotionally drain them - it's still an entertainment project obviously. But ultimately we aim to send people on an experience.”
Denby explained that gamers want more than just things to shoot at with big guns and had were maturing, which meant that developers needing to deliver deeper gaming experiences.
“People are looking for experiences like when they enter a movie theatre and for two hours go on a journey. I think games is a medium that can do that in the same way books and film can.”
Denby also elaborated on how the gaming industry still had time before the gaming equivalent of Michael Bay would come out and deliver the gaming equivalent of a popcorn film, though one has to wonder whether or not the 2K producer has heard of the Call
of Duty series.
“We're only about five years in to people doing that well, and it's really exciting. We're at about 1920 in the film industry, which is brilliant because it means we've got 90years before Michael Bay is making more movies.”
