Special ‘Arsenal FC’ Feature revealed in FIFA 12! – Bettor.com exclusive!
Electronic Arts are busy polishing off their latest iteration of the best selling FIFA franchise as they look to add the finishing touches on FIFA 12, including a special Arsenal feature.
Due out this September across all major platforms; PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, with ports being developed for the PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 2 and the Nintendo Wii, the game’s emphasis this time around seems focused on bringing new levels of realism.
Apart from the all new physical impact engine (which is so realistic that fellow developer, DICE, borrowed it for their upcoming first person shooting game: Battlefield 3) the game features true 360 degree close control, as well as a completely revamped
Career Mode.
Bettor.com previously reported on the ‘behind closed doors’ presentation made by EA, at this year’s E3, on just a few of the features that FIFA 12 will be introducing come its release. If readers have not already read about the game looking set to be the
most realistic football simulation game, they can click here for http://www.senore.com/FIFA-12-Features-and-extras-revealed-at-E3-2011-Part-1-a74819 and http://www.senore.com/FIFA-12-Features-and-extras-revealed-at-E3-2011-Part-2-a74823.
We were fortunate enough to catch up with Jans McKormak, EA’s Chief of Design for the FIFA series, and ask him if there were anymore changes and improvements that had been made to the game since the E3 presentation.
McKormak seemed excited to have been asked this question and was eager to share the latest FIFA 12 news. He explained how they were pushing FIFA to new levels of realism both on the field as well as off it.
He went on to share the details of EA’s brainstorming process and how a junior developer brought up the fact that the FIFA series was the official game of the Barclays Premier League.
“Everything seemed to click after that and all the pieces began falling into place,” McKormak explained, “We took the idea and ran with it.”
Apparently, FIFA 12 is set to ditch the difficulty setting for the ‘Manager’ side of Career mode and replace it, with team specific modes, which will affect the season, career and transfer policy of the team.
Bettor.com is proud to be the first to reveal one of these modes: Arsenal. As explained earlier, the ‘Manager’ side of the equation in the Career Mode has undergone a serious overhaul. Rather than choosing Semi-pro or World class difficulties, each team
will get its own unique ‘objectives’ which will make playing as Arsenal just as tough as playing as Queens Park Rangers.
“If a player chooses Arsenal then he has a unique set of challenges exclusive to the club,” Jans teased, “for example, the Scouts available to the manager will be top-class. They will be able to find some of the most talented players at very young ages.
Something other clubs would not be able to.”
The feature sounded impressive and accurately reflected the real life Gunners back room staff, but things got better. Apparently all the players the scouts would discover will be in their teens, with very exotic, hard to pronounce names.
Another feature would be how the first half of the season would go extremely well for the side, before a host of injuries would derail any hopes of a title in the space of a month.
“Yes, it may sound harsh but seeing how Arsenal blew their chance of a quadruple this season, we wanted to incorporate that into the game,” Jans pointed out.
However, to add to the ‘Arsenal’ approach of football, the in-game Board of Directors would not allow the manager to make any purchases in the transfer window, despite having a ridiculous amount of funds.
Arsenal mode would also have a unique feature where the young players would transform themselves into superstars in only a few seasons, but right after that they would all want a transfer to a ‘big club’.
“We studied the trend and saw how players like (Emmanuel) Adebayor, (Manuel) Flamini and Gael (Clichy) left the club after establishing themselves.” Jans continued, “Also, players will have a hard time keeping their top players like Cesc Fabregas and Samir
Nasri, who will constantly want to get away from the club. That if they’re still there for the start of next season.”
However, there was one concession: the player could go on managing the club indefinitely, regardless of whether he had won a trophy or not for 10 years.
Lastly was a warning from Jans about the toughest feature in ‘Arsenal FC’, “If you want to keep your best players then do not make them captains, otherwise they will pull a (Patrick) Vieira, a (Thierry) Henry or attempt a Fabregas and leave the club.”
It seems FIFA 12 has captured the true essence of Arsenal and fans of the team can finally see how it is to actually manage the club they love. Jans also promised us more features to be revealed over to the coming weeks, exclusively to Bettor.com
