As of yesterday my husband and I are going to be going to court with my sons school district. He is a 7 year old boy with autism and the district is trying to move him out of his present placement into their 6 week old in-district Autism program. Please send me any lawyers in NJ that specialize in Special Education that can help us. Thank you to anyone that responds!

  1. You do know that the Supreme Court has just ruled that you don't need an attorney to appeal your child's IEP or change in School's don't you??   You may be better off trying to find a private program for him.  IF you want to make sure that your child's placement isn't changed than get recommendations from all of the health professionals that work with him to leave him where he is if that's what you really think is best.  And when I say everyone I mean everyone!!! I got letters from my daughter's pediatrician, psychologist, psychiatrist, neurologist and her OT.  You need to make sure that you have all of these.  If you don't find an attorney if you still want to go with one (I and my cousin did it for our children with out one) contact you Bar association and they should know who specializes in education law.  IF you want to know more about how I did it email me.

  2. New Jersey Protection and Advocacy

Consumer-controlled, non-profit organization that serves as New Jersey's designated protection and advocacy system for people with disabilities in the state.

  3. You can to to the Wrightslaw.org website.  They have a directory of legal and advocacy resources.  What's available for NJ can be found here:

There are a few lawyers listed on this page.  Good luck!
