Special Education Non-teaching?

I'm majoring in Sign Language interpretation and I would like to minor in Special Education, some schools have special education as non-teaching. Whats the difference between non-teaching special ed. and teaching special ed.?

  1. I believe that non teaching means for those individuals currently working in an area that requires knowledge and some related skills for working with individuals with disabilities but you don't actually teach special education.


  2. I have friends majoring in "non-teaching" Education programs. It simply means they will not be certified by the State as a teacher when they are done. They have to take the same classes but do not participate in student teaching. They are also not required to take the PRAXIS exams. They will be able to teach in private school.
