Special Feature: Quotes of the week (Nov 8th-12th) - Part 2
Roberto Mancini’s Manchester City drew against Manchester United in mid-week but the Italian manager was quite positive before the match as he told the media, "I think Chelsea will win the Premier League as they are better than the other teams". When your
own team manager doesn’t fancy his chances of lifting the league title, one can very well determine that there is something terribly wrong with the club itself.
On the other hand John. W. Henry, Liverpool’s new owner by affiliation with NESV (New England Sports Ventures) attended his team’s two goal win over Chelsea at the past weekend. With Fernando Torres scoring both the goals, Henry was left in awe of the game
as he said, "It's a culture shock, there's no doubt about it. It's like the Wild West. It's a completely different system here from what we're used to. If a player has a contract in the US, they fulfil the contract. Over here, it seems players have much more
say so".
Martin Tyler, the expert commentator who started his career way back with the 1986 World Cup and the Maradona hand of god goal was not shy when it came to praising Mr. Henry’s partner at the game as he said, "She looks like a lovely lady". Arsene Wenger
was not complimentary about the British media amidst news of his ‘new’ girlfriend. Wenger said, “I arrived 14 years ago and you know what happened and I promised myself I would never comment anymore, because for 14 years I have been insulted everywhere in
England, and never with any truth. I promised myself I would never speak about my private life any more".
Paul Gascoigne makes a surprise appearance in this feature of quotes of the week as he was arrested yet again for driving under the influence of alcohol. However, Gaza as Gascoigne is much more affectionately known amongst footballing individuals remarked
on the whole situation as he said, "I need to get well to take on the role. This is my last chance at getting my life sorted and having a career as an actor. It was a favourite film of mine", (quite touching by the ex-Tottenham player).
Roy Hodgson was in vibrant mood after his team’s two goal thrashing of the English champions, Chelsea F.C. Roy went onto clear the air about Liverpool’s chances of finishing in the top four teams of the English Premier League as he said, "I don't wish to
play down our chances but I think it is unfair to ask coaches like myself, who have had a bad start to the season and fallen way behind, whether they will be in the top four. My answer will only set me up for ridicule later on. I would like to really discuss
our top-four potential when we can really see whether it is a truly viable proposition or not. I'll keep my powder dry and you can happily question me with six games to go and I'll give you the intelligent answer. It is all to play for at the moment and I
certainly wouldn't write us off that's for sure but, on the other hand, being five points adrift is clearly not where people want to be."
David Silva was comparing the south of Spain with its sunshine and lovely tanned beauties to the rain in Manchester as he said, “When I left Spain everything was different - the weather, the people and the football. I have adapted quickly and I feel at home
and I think it's now showing through in my football".
Alternatively, Ian Holloway was bordering on delusional as he embarked on a characteristically surprising line of comments. The Blackpool manage said, "I would love Charlie Adam to stay for a long time and get us in the top four, maybe Champions League places,
maybe winning the Champions League. You might think I am crazy but I am not. I have watched games over the last few days and I have watched my team play.”
