Special Feature: Quotes of the week (Nov 8th-12th) - Part 3
Joey Barton who recently got charged by the F.A for non-sporting behaviour on the field of play because he punched Morten Gamst Pederson in Newcastle’s match against Blackburn Rovers was clearly frustrated by the English national team setup as made his thoughts
known on the subject to the English media. Barton said, “If you want to win football matches then sometimes players who don't always toe the line - every other national team picks because they are the best in their position, the frustrating thing for me is
we pick the good guys, the guys who won't cause any problems.”
After Kevin Nolan and Andy Carroll were accused by the media of indulging in pleasures of illegal drugs, Newcastle United made their side of the story known through their press release on their official website. The club said, "Both Nolan and Carroll categorically
deny having any knowledge that drugs had been brought onto the premises and are pleased that the paper does not even allege that they were aware of the presence of drugs. Neither player would ever contemplate taking drugs or condone the use of such substances.
The club and the players named are sure that if the editor felt his story had any truth he would already have reported this to the police."
Roberto Martinez was equally confused about Rafael Benitez’s liquid in the bottle is milk saying when he told the press, "I think I know what he meant but wasn't sure. It must be a bet or something to come out and say those things". Celtic won on the last
weekend against Aberdeen by nine goals to nil. Aberdeen’s manager laid the blame on the media as his team capitulated against Celtic. Mark McGhee, Aberdeen’s manager said on his team’s surprise defeat, "Where did that talk come from? I will tell you who, it
is the people who were cheering when we lost a last minute goal at St Mirren, the people who sit in this room and ask me these types of questions. Those are the people that are putting that out there.”
Jean Yves Connesson, Raymond Domenech’s lawyer has recently been on an aggressive campaign on the French football federation because of their decision to dismiss Raymond from his post as the French national team manager for their abysmal performance at the
2010 FIFA World Cup during summers.
Jean stated while talking to media, “There is no acrimony, no animosity. Monsieur Domenech is simply surprised that there was a political decision taken by the federation, which is separate and in defiance of their code of conduct, to allocate personal responsibility
for a collective crisis. Considering the extremely harsh conditions and the seniority of my client, we will demand the severance payment due to him as well as three years of salary, a lump sum of 2.9million Euros".
