Special Feature: Quotes of the week - Part 1
The first one on this week’s quotes of the week is none other than Harry Redknapp. The talkative Tottenham manager was infuriated after his team lost to Manchester United at Old Trafford by two goals to nil. The second of the two Manchester
United goals was a very controversial one which incurred the wrath of the former West Ham manager as he said in his press conference after the match that, "You can't lie on the floor and pull the ball back just because you've got the hump because you didn't
get a penalty. It was a scandalous decision and the referee has made a mess of it all".
Redknapp didn’t end it at that as he went onto say in his newspaper column for the Sun newspaper, "Mark Clattenburg is responsible for one of the worst refereeing decisions EVER. And each time I watch it, it gets worse". Tottenham manager
also said, "I think Mark knows he made a mistake; I think he knows I know that he knows that he dealt with it not very well at the time".
Harry Redknapp’s comments also prompted the former Tottenham Hotspur defender, Gary Mabbutt to say, "I thought what Harry said was quite toned down”. Heading a bit towards international issues now; Mohammed Bin Hammam, the President of
Asian football confederation is of Qatari nationality, given the fact that his country’s bid got a massive shock due to “The Sunday Times” covert journalist mission, reacted a bit irately as he said, "Forging identity, fabricating evidence and setting traps
are unethical behaviors in my point of view. One thing about Middle East media, these are rare happenings there. Is it ethical to use unethical measures to protect the ethic? How can we serve justice and look for fairness by not acting justly and fairly? How
will we clean dirty laundry by using dirty water?"
FIFA are currently holding an inquiry into possible instances of corruption in the ranks of its executive committee which is to decide whether or not the 2018 FIFA World Cup should be given to Qatar as a host nation or not. On the other
hand, Kevin Nolan was in delightful mood after, Newcastle United cracked five goals past Sunderland, three of those goals belonged to Nolan who said after the match on one of his celebrations, "It's called 'the quack'. One of the lads actually dances like
that on a Saturday night, and when we go away every year, the lads decide what celebration I am going to do the next year. They actually picked that one, so I have got to do it. One of the lads actually dances like that, so you can imagine what he looks like
on a Saturday night."
Elaborating a bit further on the whole ‘planned’ celebration, Kevin said, "The lads probably should call me Rigsby. Funnily enough, I was watching Rising Damp the other night. It was one of my dad's favorite programmes". The Magpies’ captain
also added his wife’s whereabouts as he said, "My wife's been in Liverpool this week."
Moving onto more brighter characters, Ian Holloway features yet again in the quotes of the week issue as he commented on Derby County’s dreadful Premier League campaign a few years ago during which they only captured ten points. The Tangerines’
manager said, "It's a wonderful situation to get a couple of points off our chest. Ten points, the lowest points ever, we aren't going to be that team so shut up the lot of you whoever wrote it. That's what I feel like. They might be the only 13 points we
get, you said we were only going to get 10."
Rafael Benitez was exchanging punches with Roy Hodgson yet again in verbal terms as the Spaniard commented on Hodgson’s interviews thus far. Benitez said, "I think that Mr Hodgson, he doesn't understand. Every single press conference is
even worse than the last one. He's talking about things that he doesn't know. And some people cannot see a priest on a mountain of sugar."
