Special Report: Joe Cole optimistic and exuberant about his future with Liverpool
The new star player at Liverpool, Englishman Joe Cole has expressed that he is certain that he will settle down with the team in Anfield. Cole has told that he indeed has had a couple of mind wrecking days but is confident that they will not hamper his performance with the Reds.
The new attacking midfielder has uttered that he is ready for the challenges the Merseyside is standing against and he will do his best to help Liverpool overcome them. The 28 year old also stated the he is extremely hopeful that Liverpool can bring back their lost glory this season.
He has instigated that Liverpool is a team just as good as anyone else and therefore he and other men from the club had already planned to finish up the drought of silverware at the club. Liverpool got their last trophy in 2006 and since then though they have been very near to the top post but they have not achieved it.
The English international just recently passed the medical tests after which he had to sign the four year contract formally. After reaching the current training camp of Liverpool in Switzerland Cole confirmed that he had signed the papers and was now with the Scousers.
Cole has admitted that the last few weeks have passed out in a blur. He articulated that since his allegiance with Anfield things for him have been on the fast track. He confessed that it would be hard for him to leave London as he had been living all his life there and London itself had become a part of his life.
He acknowledged that he was receiving great interest from Arsenal and Tottenham; both London clubs after he departed from the other London club, Chelsea. The Blues refused an extension on Joe Cole’s contract along with Michael Ballack and Juliano Belletti.
Cole who started his career from Went Ham United revealed, “The last few days have been crazy. I set myself a deadline to make a decision and when I made it I sent a text to (managing director) Christian Purslow and Steven Gerrard and then turned my phone off”.
The manager of Liverpool Roy Hodgson has credited the Reds captain Gerrard and Jamie Carragher for the happening of the deal. The duo told that that they related to Cole that after the dismissive performance of England; Liverpool was the place to be if he wanted to rejuvenate.
While talking to media Cole declared that all this was like a dream coming true after his troubled period. He stated that I have been with the club for just a few days now and “my head is still in the clouds”.
He tallied his first few days saying, “I always knew this was a massive club but until you sign you don't realise. I have had people on my phone who I didn't even know were Liverpool fans. It seems everyone I bump into is a Liverpool fan, it's a huge club”.
Cole told his free transfer to Liverpool took even him as a surprise after everything had settled down. He said that he was looking forward to his future with the club also saying that he had a very stable family that was always ready to support him at all times. Along with that he mentioned that these were happy times for him as before joining the club Cole had just had a baby girl.
The London born expressed that the Liverpool club had welcomed him warmly and he had been amazed with their enthusiasm. He told that he is dumbstruck by the support Liverpool has. He expressed that recently he has met people that he did not knew earlier were fans of the Reds. Cole said that he is astounded by the number of Liverpool supporters.
Cole’s signing was crucial to the club, especially if they hoped to make Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard stay with the club. Cole relayed, “I know the fans are great with the players and I will fight to try and win trophies for this club”.
Just after Cole’s signing Gerrard also announced that he would be staying at the club he has been with since he was a boy. Cole conveyed that he was exuberant when Gerrard announced his stay with Liverpool.
Cole said, “That was the best bit of news I could have had. I know Stevie, he is Liverpool through and through and I know from playing with and against him for the last 10 years what a quality player he is.
He added to that saying that to play with Liverpool you must have passion. He stated that Liverpool was a club that spread enthusiasm, “I know how much this club means to him. I think players can play for other clubs but with Liverpool you have to live and breathe it”.
He then added, “It's that kind of a place. I am excited by the challenge. I am moving my family and everyone is excited and booking their weekends up here. I am going to make it work”.
