Special report: Beach Volleyball on a go in Namibia
The happening sport of Beach Volleyball is always running the show somewhere in the world. There has been a great effort by the promoters of Beach Volleyball to spread this athletic game in every nook and cranny of the world. In this regard, Africa has been
under focus for many years.
In the recent memory, the Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVB) has proudly announced a Beach Volleyball Clinic for the aspiring young learners hailing from Africa. Officially Malawi, Madagascar Lesotho, Mozambique, Mauritius, Seychelles, Namibia, South Africa,
Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana and Swaziland will become a part of this campaign, which is scheduled to run from 3-5 December, 2010 in Windhoek, Namibia. Each country will send two representatives to attend the clinic.
An expert instructor from Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) will offer his services to teach all these participants from Africa. The course will actually deal with how to organise beach volleyball events. The participants will be trained about
the nitty-gritty of the game with the help of written material and also practical aspects of the game will be covered. The trainees will learn how to officiate the game.
It’s big stepping stone for African countries and especially for Namibia. The president of the NVF, Heiko Diehl has always been instrumental in such activities. He has put so many efforts to raise the level of game in African region. He expressed his thoughts
about the upcoming activity, “We want to raise the level of competition that is why we are hosting the clinic in Windhoek.”

“We as NVF see great potential in beach volleyball, our vision is to compete internationally,” he added. “It is much easier and cheaper to send them to international competitions because we will be paying for only two players instead of 15 people including
the technical staff when we compete internationally in indoor volleyball.”

In the long term, Namibia is supposed to host the All-Africa Games qualifiers for Zone 6 in the coming year. The qualifiers for the African Games will be held in either February or March, and this will be the first time that beach volleyball teams will enter
the All Africa Games.
Namibia has an important role in the promotion of beach volleyball and NVF is all up for this challenge. The beach volleyball clinic will be a positive move and African countries will be benefitted from it.
