Specialized Hardrock Sport or Comp?

Question

Hi, I am looking to buy a mountain bike for ridingt to work and light offroading with a budget of around £250. I reasearched the topic and was recommended by a friend the Specialized Hard rock range of bikes. The sport is in my budget but is the comp worth it for the extra £50?

I personally have the hardrock sport and it's fine for riding to work and back however if you're going to go and do some off-road stuff then the comp is worth the money.

I bought the Specialized Hard Rock Pro Disc last summer and have noticed that not only the price has dropped from £550 to £399 now. In my opinion the components from 2007 bike range are better than this years 2008 versions. I would recommend that you take a look at the 2007 Comp as you may get a better bike for your money.

  Have a chat with someone in your local bike store. If you go in mid-week, it will be quiet, (so they'll dedicate more time to you),  and they'll be able to help you with any questions you have. They may even sway you towards an alternative make of bike that may suit you better.

Failing going to your L.B.S. there's always t'internet or various bike mags like Mountain Bike Rider that will be full of bikes that you could spend your money on.

(And probably get you dreaming of super-bikes and riding down mountain sides, but it's always good to be inspired).

If your heart is set on a Spes, get as good a bike as you can afford, enjoy every ride, and good luck to ya!

Spend the extra 50 and get the better bike.  You'll be glad you did instead of three months later thinking, "I wish I had spent the extra money!"
