Would you rather go to a specific ethnic restaurant (i.e. an east indian restaurant) or a mixed restaurant (i.e. a mix between indian, chinese, and south-east asian) ?

By mix I don't mean mixed up dishes - I mean dishes from from all three cultures.

  1. I lived in Jackson Heights Queens in the late 70s/early 80s, and they had a lot of Cuban Chinese restaurants.  I loved those.  The one we went to (can't remember the name) had definite Chinese dishes, definite Cuban dishes, and things that were a combination of both -- which sounds yucky but was really yummy.  I've never seen this type of restaurant anywhere else.

  2. Definitely not the mixed type of restaurant. Unless they are closed by geographically, or they have chefs from three different regions.

Or the husband is Cuban and the Wife is from China....

  3. If i had a choice i would choose a specific ethnic restaurant. The food is more likely to be more authentic and better prepared than a restaurant that tries to offer several different cuisines. Often "mixed" restaurants, as you call them will be good at one part of their menu and not very good at the others. For example it is not that uncommon to find that an immigrant family from, let's say Japan, buys an existing burger place. Their burgers are likely to be alright but their teriyaki chicken sandwiches are probably much better.  This not always the case. People are more likely to make one kind of food better than they make several different kinds of food.
