My sister went to a junk yard to buy parts for her car, and when she came back she got a 100 dollar bill that said "SPECIMEN" all over the front. Unfortunately she used to buy gas. and other stuff at target or something. Was it worth alot if it said specimen? How much was it worth?

  1. A specimen note can be a real note, but is used to show what that note looks like. Going by A Guide to U.S. Paper Money there has been no Specimen notes since the 1860's & 1870's. The word is only stamped once not a lot of times. The note may have been used by a bank to show tellers what a new $100 looked like or it's features. It is not a government thing.

  2. No, it was not worth anything because it was not a real 100$ bill. If it said SPECIMEN all over the front it was just to show what a 100$ bill looks like. Please tell your sister not to spend any more 100$ bills that say SPECIMEN on it or else she may get in big trouble for fraud. I hope this answers your question.
