Spectacle! I Hope you're here, I need more help!! (With my multi-focal contacts)?

You helped so much the other day.....please be patient with me. I'm wondering this....for people (like me) who have only worn glasses for reading but now need distance, too.....what is their success rate with the type of contacts where one eye is adjusted for near and one for far. I get vertigo and am afriad it would make me sick...but I'm willing to try anything.

2. With your multifocals, do you get really good or just "adequate" vision?--keep in mind I am a full time student, needing a lot of reading, microscope work, computer programs and I do a lot of long distance driving.

3. Last Question,...should I get a pair of glasses as a back-up incase something happens to my contacts?

Will they be the same prescription?

Thanks so much...I've read over your other answers....you are a great help to those of us that need your expertise!!

  1. Looks like Spectacle isn't around, but I can give you some answers you are looking for.

One eye adjusted for near and one for distance is called monovision. That is really something you have to try for a couple of weeks to know if it will work for you . Some people adapt quite well, and others never do. Those aren't multifocal lenses.

Multifocal contacts are far from perfect. You can expect "adequate" vision for normal activities , but not for the needs you have.

Multifocal contacts give you either good distance and only fair close vision, or good near vision and only fair distance.

Multi focal contacts don't fulfill the needs yet of those who need good vision at many types of different tasks.

Yes, you certainly need glasses as a backup no matter what kind of contacts you wear. Some days, contacts just can't be worn because of a minor infection , allergies, ect.

The prescription will be based on the same thing , but not neccessarily the same numbers. So in other words, the contact Rx can't be used to get glasses.

    Hope I helped you some...

  2. Try the soflens or purevision multi focal lenses. They are great and doesn't give much problem.
