Alright, I am considering buying some glasses. I've been wearing normal spectacles upto now, but I want to take it one step further.

I am considering buying something that looks as cool as sunglasses but can be worn on an everyday basis ?!

Something like the OAKLEY GASCON ?

I mean, I have no experience in buying this sort of thing...am I on the right track ? I want to move away from the normal spectacles type into something more cool looking but can be worn on an everyday basis...

I need some specific brands and models...

  1. Nike Flexon 4100 is nice - they are a bit like some of the Oakleys and could also be a good sunglass/transition lens frame.

they are sporty and the temples are very durable/twisty.

Nike/Oakley and some Prodesign are nice.  All three are a bit on the higher-side cost-wise but depending on where you get them, they will usually have a 2-year warranty.

  2. You could try specsavers as they have a wide range of designer glasses, Gucci, Osiris are particularly sporty if thats what you are aiming for.

    I wear the osiris.

  3. if you are in the UK it is hard for me to know exactly what brands are available to you. I am in CA. Usually in my opinion, glasses that are for sun are for sun. They always look silly once you put a dlear lense in them. But, some people do it. I do not particularly like Oakley, but that is me. What about checking out some of the Ray Ban Ophthalmics, or Rudy Project. Zeal Optics has some cool ophthalmics as Does Ted baker by Tura. Your best bet is just to go out and shop about at the optical shops near you and try things on. Don't buy. Look and see who is wearing what you like and ask them where they got it. Good lluck!

  4. I'm sorry but your question is not very clear. Are you considering a frame that looks like a sunglass frame but having clear lenses in it or photochromic lenses, the lenses that change colour when you are exposed to UV light? Because you can't wear tinted lenses everyday, as they will reduce your vision in dim light and are illegal to drive in at night, so you'll have to have a clear pair too.

Firstly the best photochromic lenses are the brand Transitions, don't accept any other make, they will be inferior and will not go perfectly clear when indoors so they'll look dirty and make you look like you've smoked 60 a day wearing them. Transitions are great if you want the glasses to double up as sunglasses.

Frames next. The Oakley gas-can is OK. It is at the cheap end of the Oakley range, looks good as sunglasses but would look ridiculous with clear lenses.

Try the Oakley Ophthalmic range. We sell them at Vision Express, they are frames that you can have your prescription in them and would look Fab with transition lenses when they tint into sunglasses.

Ted Baker, Dolce and Gabana, Diesel and Prada have some really nice designs at the moment.

My best advise would be go into an opticians who have a large range of frames and try some on, only that way will you be able to see if they suit you, no matter how nice a frame is if you can't carry it off it will look stupid. Good luck!!!

(note to other contributors who have mentioned them... Osiris is not a designer brand, it's specsavers own label)
