Spectators root for Yani Tseng in Taiwan
Current world number one Yani Tseng is defending her title at the Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship 2012 at Sunrise Golf & Country Club, Yang Mei, Taoyuan, Taiwan, with most of the fans and
spectators rooting for her.
Without question, Tseng is the most prominent player on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour, and the ongoing 72-hole tournament has also seen an overwhelming majority of the
spectators supporting her.
Fan-favourite Tseng already expressed her confidence in Taiwanese spectators in her pre-tournament interview, saying she is sure she will enjoy a stirring support on the course this year too.
Local fans have also given a rousing reception to the top-ranked prodigy in the hope of yet another surprise victory.
“We are here to root for Yani Tseng,” one of Tseng’s fans said while talking to the media on Thursday.
Tseng, unlike most of the other LPGA contenders, is quite concerned about her fan following as she has said in many of her interviews that cheering up her admirers has always been one of her
biggest goals on the course.
On the other hand, Observers have also said that the LPGA titan will have to play really well this week to let her fans enjoy and further widen the gap between her and the current world number
two Stacy Lewis, who is ambitiously chasing her in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
Hailing from Taiwan, Tseng won the inaugural edition of the Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship, held last year at the Sunrise Golf & Country Club, Yang Mei, Taoyuan, Taiwan.
This year, the defending champion appears to be a little jittery as she is going through a worst performance slump of her professional career these days. She finished below average all summer,
which also saw her miss the cut in three tournaments.
But some experts say Tseng has already proven that she is still as aggressive as she was at the start of the current season, which saw her rack up three titles.
Despite a soul-crushing performance, Tseng thinks her slump is behind her now—especially after a much-better finish at the LPGA Hana Bank Championship, held last week at Incheon, South Korea.
She said if weather conditions remain perfect, she has a good chance of winning on her home soil once again. “The stronger the wind, the better I play,” Tseng said on Tuesday.
