  1. Use the 5 senses. Taste, smell, feel, hear, and what you see. Describe each one.

  2. Use similes and metaphors as these are extremely affective, both in descriptive writing and rhetoric pieces.

Be observant and use precise detail to bring the beach scene to life. Try and imagine yourself there, or as a camera panning its way across the beach - ZOOM in and describe things in detail.

And as KATIE said, include the five senses e.g use onomatopoeia to describe the sound of the sea. Think about the atmosphere as well as what it looks like. What does it make you think of? Include shape, size, colour, sound, light, movement, other sensations and its effect on you.

If you're describing a person on the beach as well, think about their character, appearance and behaviour and body language.

  3. I think these answers are amazing. Touching each of the senses of the audience will bring it to life and perhaps evoke memories of a special day at the beach.

Just to add a little bit:

What does the beach mean to you. Personal feeling, ideas, and stories can bring some passion to the speech. As long as they are inclusive type stories the audience can relate to.

For me there is a real difference in saying you remember a warm sunset evening walking along, holding hands with your partner gazing out at the gorgeous sunset colors, feeling the cool sand beneath your feet, as opposed to this is a great beach with beautiful sunsets.

For material there is also the colors, perhaps palm trees swaying in the wind, happy people smiling, lifeguards, a great feeling of fresh air, miles of sand stretching out in front of you, colorful beach towels, boats, rocks, sunshine and wispy clouds.

    Good Luck!
