  1. it's ok .. :)  i was shy  too , but now i'm better ..:)  just have confidence in urslef , relax and do not be in a hurry ( in rush )  ..sya whatever comes into ur mind .. talk to ur self and determine that u'll succeed ..

u'll see it is very easy ..

do not think about this matter too much , try to forget what have passed !!! when the moment of the speech comes , go as if u r a new person and forget about the idea that u failed before .. coz u did not .. :)  wish u luck :)

  2. do the speech with someone else or have someone you know stand next to you

  3. I have the same problem too. I had to do a four minute talk about a book.

    Here is my advice:

    - Take a bottle of water with you.

    - Practice speaking a loud at home. Practice infront of your family and friends, it won't be same as the real thing but will help you.

    - Calm down, thirty seconds isn't that long and it will be over before you know it.

    - Most people are feeling the same way too so you know that your not the only one.

    - Take a deep breath. Don't rush it, pace yourself and you won't sound silly. Remember practice makes perfect.

EDIT: Have you got any idea what the speech might be on? I thinks that's a bit unfair.

    - Although you don't know what the topic is, you could ask your family or friends to do trial runs where you don't know what is going to be asked yet and practice.

Hope this helps, good luck  :-)

  4. dont look right at the people, just unfocus your eyes and move them around the room a little, and just say what you think. pretend there is no one else there.

  5. I too used to be very shy.  But years ago when I was in business college, one of the required courses was a speech class.  It was the best thing for me.  It helped me to be more comfortable with speaking in front of people.  The other poster had a good suggestion about the bottle of water.  If you can't take a bottle of water, then take a small spray bottle that would fit in your pocket with water in it and mist your mouth before speaking.

The other poster's suggestions were all good ones.  I would add -- practice at home.  Get in front of a mirror and practice what you are going to have to do in front of the class.  Then practice in front of your parents, family, or a small group of friends.  This will help you get ready to speak in front of others.
