They say you should always write what you know and what you're passionate about.  That goes double for a speech.

What are your hobbies?

Is there something you know how to do that is unusual?

What is your favorite sport and why should everybody try it?

What is your favorite movie?

your favorite book?

Your favorite animal?

Your pet? (I once gave a speech on the care and feeding of a pet skunk, complete with live prop.  It went over very well and I had fun doing it.)

Your favorite "cause"?  Be careful with this one....causes tend to lead to politics.  Politics lead to anger.  Anger leads to loss of friends and low grades.

Something topical....what happened in the news recently that you found interesting?  Any olympic sports you enjoy watching that you can explain?  Something of local significance that isn't political but is interesting?

Unless you can guarantee that everybody in your audience is the same religion, avoid religion.

Whatever you do, don't talk about s*x.
