Speed Camera UK Help!?

Hi I live in the UK the incident took place at Blythe Valley Business Park- West Midlands

Today I got flashed by a camera in a business park. I was doing 50mph in a 30 limit. All I saw was 1 speed limit 30 sign.

There was no speed camera sign and it was not yellow or in high visibility. I did not recognise the type of speed camera it was on a metal pole there were 2 'CCTV' like cameras, bunched together. It looks like a non-government approved one.

It only flashed once, and since it was in the business park on the business park road to the gym, I am presuming it was owned by them and will go back to their 'control box'.

My question is, do they have the power to issue penalty points, I presume they can issue a fine but it is the '3' points I don't want if the image comes out (It was at night).

  1. NO!. If it is private they have no right to issue ANYTHING!!. They will like you to think they can send you this rubbish and may send you official looking paperwork that will be cleverly worded to make it look like you will be prosectuted. Read the wording very carefully - it is normally what the ticket doesn't say that will tell you it's fake!!.

You may not even be legally obligated to pay a fine if you get one.

If you recieve anything, take it to a solicitor to look at and get advice - this is very important.

Similarly, if you get a speeding ticket on a public road, I would seek legal advice as soon as you get the ticket.

  2. When my brother got caught speeding he had to pay a £60 fine and was offered either 3 points on his licence or a day at a driver taining school with the police. He chose the latter and had to spend the day learning about road safety and then do an exam at the end about what they had learned.

It saved him getting the 3 points and he said it was quite interesting.

  3. if it's private property you've got away with it if it's a public road we'll all come and visit you in Walton prison

  4. The owners of the business park wont be able to put points on your licence themselves but the courts can.

Only thing you can do is wait and see if you get a summons through the post and either way take it as a lesson learned

  5. 50mph in 30 zone?!  Sorry - I find it hard to be sympathetic; Business Park or not.

However, the chances are that you will get fined and the points attached.  If you really want to check and challenge - try talking to your local CAB.

  6. Was it absolutely private land? Did it have gates that can be/and are closed at least once a year?  If so, no offence, if not your done.

  7. 3-points guaranteed and no questions asked............

  8. You might be lucky, I think it take 2 weeks to get your fixed penalty notice, so if you don't here owt then you've got away with it. Sometimes, I've been flashed but never had a letter sent to me. Maybe there was no film in the camera. But seriously, if you did 50 in a 30, you will get done kid, your only hope is to plead insanity with your local magistrate's court. Tell them you were a foreigner or something, that usually gets people off.
