Speed Camera........?

Question

A friend has told me that last night he was zapped by a camera on the opposite side of the carriage to which he was travelling, and in addition, it was facing him as he approached it.

There was nothing coming the other way, but he had just overtaken another vehicle.

Are there cameras which can cop you on the other side of the road and also forward facing? Or could it have somehow picked up the overtaking manoeuvre?

Yes, there are cameras that take the shot from the front - it shows the car's reg plate and the driver's face.

Yet another reason to ride a motorcycle !

If it was speed cameras then it might be over the limit. For example if the road was 30mph then you need to drive at that speed, don't go over that limit

If it was a GATSO and it flashed at you going towards it, it means theres no camera unit in it, the radar is triggering the flash at anything it detects as going too fast in any direction, the police do it deliberately to frighten people, so tell your friend don't worry, nothing should happen as regards it!  Although there are cameras that get you from the front, they are not situated on the opposite side of the road, they are always on your side of the road, or the SPECS cameras you get on the motorways, they get you by average speed between two points and they photograph the front. I don't think though your friend has anything to worry about, forget it!

yes most camera can catch you on both sides of the road but most of them just flash you and have no film in them.

Yes, there are cameras that can cop you on both sides of the road as you stated.....Just sit back and wait to see if you receive any notification....Maybe you will be lucky...Who knows...Frederick
