Speed Limit Signs?

When the speed limit changes on a major street/freeway from one speed to another does it come in effect when you visually see the new posted sign or when you pass the sign?

When you pass the  sign.  I know this one from experience because I got a ticket for it once~!

I agree with Alvarz in that it depends on the cop's day, but in reality it's when you pass the sign.
