Question:

Speed Limit on Trucks in Ontario (105kph)?

This Means that the Truck wont be able to go more then 105kph.

Isn't Canada "A FREE COUNTRY"?

More then 90% of cars traveling on the HWY, go more then 115 Kph and on HWY 401 over 120 kph. This means that trucks will slow down all the cars.

The government believes that this will lower green house emissions and save over 100 Million Litters of fuel per year.

They also believe that this will save lives, because Trucks will travel slower.

But the cars will still go 120 kph.

I believe this will cause more traffic and collisions, because cars will have to pass trucks every time on the HWY.

I think that if they do decide to do this, then Put a limit on all vehicles, other wise I believe its discrimination.

Why do they think only because the trucks are bigger, then they are the risk.

I believe accidents happen because of young teens speeding on the highway.

First, it is way harder to get an A-Z Drivers license then a G2. Second, truck drivers have more experience.

  1. That is just a proposition at this point.  The MP that tried to levy it on the provincial parliament didn't even get re-elected.  Reputable companies already have speed limiters on their trucks.  Personally, I never speed.  I am paid by the hour... no need.

90 - 95 % of car - truck collisions are the fault of the car.  Trucks do not slow down cars... poor driving habits of car drivers, and sheer volume of cars, slow down cars.  I see it every day.  Cars all bunched up in the left and centre lanes... myself and other truck drivers cruising along in the right lane, perhaps just a bit slower than the volume of cars.  Heck, sometimes even faster than the cars slowed to a crawl in the 2 left lanes.

I agree with you that ALL vehicles should be fitted with speed limiters.  If safer driving isn't a good enough reason, then perhaps a reduction in insurance premiums might be a better one.  There is nowhere in Canada that you can legally drive faster than 110 kph.  I think all vehicles should be limited to 115 kph.  Those who refuse speed limiters on their vehicles should pay higher premiums for insurance .

Have you noticed that since they introduced the new "50+ kph over posted limit" law, that more cars seem to be pushing 140 ?  Do they figure they can get away with more... but don't dare go 50 over, 'cause then they'd be screwed if they were caught ?

Most, not all, but most truck drivers are professionals.  Taught extensively and well trained.  Sadly, car drivers are not taught how to share the road with trucks.  The foolish manouevers by car drivers I see on a daily basis is astounding.  There needs to be more respect for the size of the truck and the sheer physics we are dealing with.  Car drivers need to stop driving with 'blinders' on, and be concerned with everyone on the road, not just themself.  A little patience goes a long way too.  Like really... how important are those 5 seconds ???  Why don't you all just give yourselves proper time to get where you are going ???

If the government truly wanted to lower greenhouse emissions and save fuel, they would do better to work and realistically create better modes of transportation and public transit.  As it sits, they are just paying lip service to the whiners and complainers.  The government trying to force speed limiters on trucks is just another way of appeasing those who refuse to look at what, and who, are truly to blame.

Why not bring back photo-radar ?  ( The opponents to that are just the ones who will have to pay because they don't want to stop speeding. )  How about air patrol ?  Works well in some states.  How about better speed enforcement presence ?  Everyone slows down when 'Johhny Law' is around.
