Speed Master Team’s Andrea Iannone cautious about switch to MotoGP class from Moto2 – MotoGP news
Speed Master Team rider from Moto2 class Andrea Iannone is reported to be moving to MotoGP class for the 2012 season.
The Italian rider is presently racing in Moto2 class and is expected to move up to premier class in MotoGP.
Iannone said, “I don’t know what is going to happen for next year. Now I want to win as many races in Moto2 and focus on this championship before deciding what to do.”
The Italian rider made his MotoGP debut ride during an official post race test held at Mugello. Iannone was called in by the Pramac Racing team to ride the GP11 in place of Loris Capirossi, as he was injured. The Pramac team ran three Desmosedicis during
the post-race test at Mugello.
During the test session at Mugello, Sylvain Guintoli was also called to ride along Randy de Puniet. However, the test appearance at Mugello further heated the rumour that Iannone will be moving to top class for the next season.
Iannone said, “The bike was impressive. I opened the throttle and the straight was finished! I am happy because I didn’t crash and I wasn’t dangerous for Ducati.”
The Italian rider has recently talked to Monster Yamaha Tech3 crew of Cal Crutchlow. His recent talk carried out with the Tech3 squad is a sign of his taking a step up.
There is another aspect as well that Iannone’s present team Speed Master has been allotted a position on the MotoGP grid for the 2012 season. However, it is still not clear whether the Moto2 team will move into premier class with its own 1000cc project or
not.
Iannone also praised the performance of his compatriot, Loris Capirossi’s GP11. He was astonished with the capabilities of the MotoGP prototype. Even though the Desmosedici he rode was a satellite setup but still it charmed Iannone.
The other possibility is that he can replace his compatriot Capirossi in the Pramac Racing squad. As sighted in the first half of the season, Capirossi has not been able to perform well up to the mark.
On the other side, Randy de Puniet has occasionally been faster than Valentino Rossi who rides the factory Ducati.
