Question:

Speed of different tennis balls of different brand?

Has anyone tried playing with diff brands of tennis balls and have to adjust their timing so that they can actually hit the ball well? My coach told me that coaching balls are generally slower balls and he always used those to train me and my friend during training. So we sort of already developed the timing for those type of balls. However, when he used faster balls like slazenger, i wasnt able to time my shots very well and i always hit the ball either too early or too late, resulting in an off center shot.

Anyone can give advice on what i can do to handle diff types of balls with diff speeds?

  1. Yes different balls travel at different speeds because some have more fluff on them and some maintain their pressure longer. Coaching balls are usually softer and slower, therefore easier to hit and good for training. In a match though you would normally use Dunlop Fort or Slazener Ultra Vis which are faster to start with but will slow down after being played with a few sets.
