Speed of lightning is the same as that of light, zigzag does not come in consideration.

I am sure it would be a bit faster then it is right now on its zigzag path, but still not at the speed of light.

Lighting itself isn't too fast because the air is a terrible electrical conductor.  It just has so much energy behind it that it actually feels the attraction all the way down to the grounding force (the ground!)

I have no idea what the speed of lightning is.  I'd imagine it's pretty fast.  However, considering the variable nature of its path, I doubt it would ever follow a straight line.  It's a neat idea though.
