Speed of vision? what are your thoughts?

hey guys, i have a theory that i've been working on for some time. It doesn't have much science put into it yet but it has some logic.

speed of vision> speed of sound > = faster :)

i know this sounds ridiculousus but hey what can i say.

basically i think that since we as humans can see light, we can see how fast its going because we can just simply see objects instantaneously. via, speed of vision is faster than the speed of light.

try and work with me here guys, and tell me your honest thoughts and how you feel i might be onto something, or how it can't be possible.

thanks

  1. What we "see" is a band of electromagnetic radiation we know as visible light. It is what our eyes are "tuned" to do, rather like a radio receiver, that "tunes" a different band of radiation. Nothing more.

All of this radiation has a common speed, the "speed of light".

Only its wavelengths vary to establish what we see as any particular colour

Aren't our eyes marvellous! Radiation detectors!

Beyond that, try some research into the part our brain plays, in interpretation of what we see.

  2. The "speed of vision" is about 1/10th of a second lag between what is there and when we see it.  This lag is behind many an optical illusion.  You can not measure the speed of light using only your eyes.

    Sorry.

  3. Well, Great Thinker, according to Einstein, the speed of light is it, no faster speed is possible.

  4. Speed of vision < speed of light

It takes time for your brain to process what you see.

  5. Umm no?

Speed of vision? There's no speed of vision(did you make that up?). Think of our brain like a library, a BIG library. Once we see something, say a couch, our brain automatically finds the book called Couch and sends it to our brain, making us know what it is. Our brain is a memory bank.

But basically, no. I don't really see how you're on to something.
