Speed strip on touch mouse is too sensitive

Question

I have a Gateway computer. The speed strip on the side of the touch mouse pad is too sensitive. Even if you accidentally rest any part of your hand, clothing etc. the cursor moves really fast. This is very annoying when you are typing. Can it be slowed down?
